Common Language Dog Training is based in Archer, Florida, serving Gainesville and the surrounding area.
What types of training do you offer?
Common Language Dog Training offers puppy and basic obedience training, behavior modification, private training, group classes, dog sports training, and service dog selection, training, and guidance. Different programs are designed to help both dogs and handlers build practical skills and strong communication.
Do you train all breeds?
Yes. Our training programs are designed for dogs of all breeds and backgrounds. The focus is on helping each dog and handler develop clear communication and reliable behavior.
What age should my dog start training?
Dogs can begin training as puppies and continue throughout adulthood. Early training helps build strong foundations, but older dogs can absolutely learn new skills as well. You can teach an old dog new tricks - we promise!
Do I need previous training experience?
No. We teach both the dog and the handler, regardless of prior training experience.
How long does training take?
Training timelines vary depending on the dog and its family, the behavior being addressed, and the consistency of practice at home. Many cases focus on giving families the skills needed to continue training after formal sessions end.
Can you help with difficult behavior problems?
Yes. Training services include support for common behavior challenges such as reactivity, barking, leash pulling, and other household behavior issues. We are also happy to help troubleshoot complex cases.

Results depend on the dog, the family, the behavior involved, and consistent practice at home. While no ethical trainer can guarantee results, our goal is to provide clear guidance and a structured, individualized plan that gives dogs and handlers the best opportunity for lasting success. We can't guarantee that we can make your dog someone they are not - but we can guarantee that we will do our very best to help you and your dog become your best selves together.

What vaccinations are required?
All dogs on the premises are required to be currently vaccinated for rabies. All dogs on the premises must have had a full DHPP series at least once in their life.
How do I get started?
Submit the Services Agreement so we can chat about your goals and recommend the best starting point.
Which class should I start with?
If your dog does not already hold a CGC title, start with Obedience I, which is required for new students without CGC.
Can I take Rally right away?
Rally is available to students holding a CGC title.
Should I feed my dog before class?
It's best to bring a hungry dog so treats are more rewarding and can replace those calories during training. If your dog is distressed with hunger, please feed them. A little hungry is good - starving is not.
What should we wear and bring?
Wear close-toed, comfortable shoes. Dogs should have a properly fitted collar and a 6-foot leather, biothane, rope, or nylon leash. Flexi-leads and certain footwear such as flip-flops, sandals, and heels are not allowed.
What treats should I bring to class?
Bring soft, high-value treats and a way to carry multiple options, such as an apron or treat pouch. Examples include hot dog pieces, rotisserie chicken, cubed cheese, beef, or small commercial treats.
My female dog is in season. Can she attend?
Please do not attend class if your dog is in season. Contact us and we can discuss moving classes or private lessons until she is no longer in season.
Do you offer make-up classes?
Make-up classes may be available. If you need to miss a week, contact us as soon as possible so we can discuss options.
What happens if the weather is bad?
We cancel outdoor activities during severe cold, wind, heavy rain, smoke, or unsafe conditions. Because lightning is common in our area, all guests must pack up and end their session if thunder is heard. Sessions interrupted or canceled due to weather may be rescheduled or credited for a later date when conditions are safe.

What equipment is available?
Our agility field includes a 20-foot weighted tunnel, 12-foot rubberized dog walk, 9-foot rubberized A-Frame, 12 weave poles at 24 inches, single, double, and triple bar jumps, and a rubberized teeter. We also have several 40-by-50-foot spaces for Conformation practice and Rally Obedience. Dock diving is unavailable for the 2026 season. All handlers using the equipment must be approved for the safety of both the handler and the dogs.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes. All sports field sessions must be booked in advance through the scheduling system. Walk-ins are not available.
Can I bring multiple dogs?
Yes. Our guests often bring multiple dogs to train. Please ensure that you can safely manage all dogs you bring to your session, and pay attention to how many dogs are included in your booking.
Is there water available?
Yes. We have clean, cool running water available for dogs at all times.
What is included in Solo Practice?
Solo Practice reserves the field for you to train independently during your scheduled time. You are responsible for your own training plan unless you have requested an additional service such as course setup.
What is Small Group practice?
Small Group sessions allow multiple handlers to share the field and rotate training time. This option is ideal for competitors who want to practice with friends or training partners.
What does the Monthly Pass include?
The Monthly Pass allows the passholder to book multiple sessions per month at a discounted rate. The passholder must accompany any additional guests. Additional services such as course setup are charged separately.
Do I need to bring my own equipment?
Please bring any equipment you may need to safely manage your dogs, such as crates, buckets, towels, and fans. Please do not bring any sport equipment without consulting with CLDT.
What rules apply when using the field?
All handlers must follow facility rules and safety guidelines. Dogs must remain under control at all times and handlers are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Dogs may not eliminate on any of our equipment. Please be sure to give your dogs the opportunity to go potty along the fence or tree line.
Can I rent the field for an event or seminar?
Yes. The field is available for trials, matches, seminars, and other events. Please contact us directly to discuss availability and pricing.
